The Edge donates Epiphone guitar to Stuart Adamson fundraiser

The Edge with Epiphone Casino

U2 guitarist, The Edge, has donated an Epiphone guitar from his collection to a charity auction in aid of the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland and the youth academy at Dunfermline Football Club. The auction is part of a tribute to former Skids guitarist and Big Country front man, Stuart Adamson, who died in Hawaii in 2001.

The Edge has signed the guitar, and it’s expected to raise £8000 (approx $12000) when it’s auctioned on eBay. News reports haven’t said which model Epi The Edge has donated and there are no pictures at the moment. However, The Edge recently appeared in the UK’s Jonathan Ross Show playing an Epiphone Casino with a Vibrola tailpiece. Some of the money raised from the sale of the guitar will also be donated to a charity The Edge co-founded to help musicians struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Adamson’s daughter, Kirsten, lead singer with The Gillyflowers was delighted with the donation. She told Scotland’s Daily Record newspaper that “The Edge has signed it and has used it for a few gigs. My dad really had a lot of respect for The Edge and U2, so this is just a fantastic tribute.” And his son Calum added “My dad would have been extremely honoured by this gesture. He was a working class man with a burning ambition to become a successful musician.”

Adamson would have been 51 on 11 April.
