As for the Goldtop, tell me about it, I've been looking for one for a while. I love the idea of a Les Paul with P-90 pick-ups.

You're right. Since 2002, Gibson has made Epiphone Les Pauls in its factory in Qingdao, China. I've updated the post. There's a piece about the factory on Epiphone's website here.

By the way, are you sure the model you have reviewed is still made in Korea?

I am quite sure Epi now manufactures all of its guitars in its own factory in China.

I have been an Epi fan for years and own several but:

With the recent price rises, Epiphone have priced themselves right out the market now. There are brands around now such as Agile which offer far better quality and value for money.

As for the Epi 56 Goldtop, it's a discontinued model now and almost impossible to find new.
